get your september reset here!

You are a parent, a teacher, an educator and you know that September is a time of change and transition.
A time to be excited, but also super tired.
A time to over plan and possibly under-deliver.
A time to celebrate and also cry: whether it’s your kiddo going off to school or seeing the receipt for their back to school supplies.

What should September be for?
How about some new goals?!
I recently heard that fall is often our most productive season.

I want to challenge that.

I want to prove it right.

And, I want you to prove to yourself that it is never too late in the year to get started on YOUR goals.

But first, you may wonder what gives me the right to provide advice to educators and moms as a personal fitness coach. Not only did I complete Early Childhood Education as my first post secondary study, working among many children, in childcare settings, and before and after school programs, I also worked as a Youth Worker at a high school in the last 5 years. Plus, I have watch so many moms, teachers, and educators change their lives with my programs. With more energy, more confidence, and the ability to say “No Susan, I do not want those free donuts today!” women are feeling more and more empowered every year. Pretty cool, right?

So I ask you to stick with me here.

Go ahead, write down the #1 thing you would love to see happen in your life before the end of the year.
Make sure it is something you have control over.

Now, write down 3-5 action steps you will need to take to get yourself to your goal.
These should be items that you can actually check off.

Disclaimer: you can't spot reduce belly fat. I would take 20 squats a day, over 20 sit ups in terms of effectiveness any day.

For example, let’s compare these two choices for possible action steps:
I will complete 3 workouts per week! vs. I will work out more.
See the difference?

Your next step is actually the most important: REFLECT & ADJUST

How many times have you written down all your big hopes and dreams. Said “Yes, I am going to change this time. This time, it will work!” Then you set that paper down only to have it end up in the junk drawer and never looked at or even thought about again. Until the cycle repeats of course.

By putting - REVIEW GOALS - in your weekly calendar you will be able to hold yourself more accountable. So what should you be looking for when you review your goals???

You really only need 3 questions:
- What is working?
- What isn’t working?
- What’s the gap?

Do this every week for the next 3-4 months before throwing in the towel. If you quit before that, then you will never truly know if your plan was effective.
