The power of routine
So you’ve decided you are going to start working out! You aren’t sure when or how, but maybe you know where. Well, that's a good start. Right?
I can genuinely say that people who think they will get their 2 to 3 workouts in each week without a plan, are not nearly as successful as those who schedule their workouts. For myself, I plan at least 1 or 2 each week, and then get my 3rd in where I can. Does that third one always happen? Not always. And that’s why the other 2 are planned! Every Wednesday in between clients, and every Saturday with my partner! This also help ensure he gets in a minimum of 1 workout in each week. #accountabilityworks
We don’t need to hit the gym every day to live a healthy, and active life. After all, life is about balance, and what we really need is long term consistency.
So, here I am, asking you to sit down. Yes, now, sit down. Grab a pen, or your phone and write down the days you are planning to workout this week. Don’t worry about what day is your upper body day, and what day you are doing cardio on just yet, just write down the days you can actually commit to going. Now that that’s done, ask yourself is this realistic?
If you have planned to go home after a long day of work and head to the gym after you have already sat on the couch for a few hours then great. If, you can remain accountable.
Pro Tip - Have your gear at the door, and change into your workout clothes as soon as you get home so you are less likely to back out.
Or
Maybe you need to change the plan and go straight to the gym from work. This way your body, and brain, don’t get a chance to enter into REST mode and have you ending up staying in all night. Neither option is wrong, it’s just choosing what is right for you, what is REALISTIC for you, and what you will be able to hold yourself accountable to 90% of the time. Otherwise what’s the point?
In my experience working with clients in the gym as well as online, I see the difference between those who have a schedule and stick to it (90% of the time), and those who change their schedule week to week. I understand that life isn’t always predictable and it may be a challenge some days to stick to your schedule, but if you meet yourself halfway and schedule at least 1x per week for active movement I promise you will be more successful.
